Plastic surgery on stage. The performance moves between dance and object manipulation and reveals the tension between unrealistic ideals and real human individuals. The Korean dance artists and the Finnish circus artist, Ville Walo, expose themselves to an unusual cross-art encounter. The dancers move towards object choreographies; the circus artist approaches from the opposite direction and manipulates human bodies. This joint work will receive its world premiere in the Helsinki Festival after which it will be performed in Seoul.

Plastiikkakirurgiaa näyttämöllä. Tanssin ja esinemanipulaation välimaastossa liikkuva esitys paljastaa jännitteen epärealististen ihanteiden ja todellisten ihmisyksilöiden välillä. Kasvojen ja vartaloiden hengästyttävä kaleidoskooppi peilaa nykytodellisuutta: korealaisten kauneuskirurgien leikkaussaleissa aasialaiset silmäluomet ja piirteet taivutetaan länsimaisten ihannekasvojen muottiin. Lähes pelottavan yhdennäköiset muovikasvot tanssivat esiintyjien harteilla groteskin koomisesti.

Korealaiset tanssitaiteilijat ja suomalainen sirkustaiteilija Ville Walo altistavat itsensä poikkeukselliselle taiteidenväliselle kohtaamiselle. Tanssijat liikkuvat esinekoreografioiden suuntaan, sirkustaiteilija käy vastakkaisesta suunnasta käsiksi ihmisvartaloiden manipulointiin. Huimissa yhteiskohtauksissa taiteilijat jongleeraavat toistensa päillä.

Korealainen Sungsoo Ahn on tehnyt koreografioita yli 20 vuoden ajan. Hän on koreografiaosaston johtaja Korean kansallisessa taideyliopistossa. WHS on suomalaisen nykysirkuksen pioneereja ja yksi aktiivisimmin ulkomailla toimivista suomalaisista esitystaideryhmistä. Yhteisteos saa maailman ensi-iltansa Juhlaviikoilla, jonka jälkeen se esitetään Soulissa.

In addition to the Korean tour WHS will be seen this spring on European stages. In April Hopla! Circus festival in Brussels will present Ville Walo’s solo show Mortimer, giving the show its Belgian premiere. Keskusteluja (Discussions) will feature in May in the program of an international puppetry festival in Bielsko-Biała, Poland. In the end of May WHS will stage Odotustila in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.

Tämä kiitetty ja palkittu esitys sai ensi-iltansa Helsingin Kaupunginteatterissa marraskuussa 2009, ja nyt WHS studiolla esitys nähdään ensi kerran englanninkielisenä.

On stage, by himself, founder of the group Kalle Hakkarainen is revealed as one of the most cutting-edge and artistic magicians, for his philosophic ideas, his dramatic stories and his unique circus skills.
 The group he founded creates a perfect show, in which his own acting, the design and the live and filmed performance are complimented by a fascinating soundtrack by Samuli Kosminen, remarkable lighting by Meri Ekola and Video Art by Kalle Hakkarainen.”
